Inpatients, aged care residents and staff will be tucking into a range of goodies for Christmas lunch and dinner in Central West Hospital and Health Service facilities this year.

Central West Health dietitian Sophie Gouveia said all health facilities would share the same basic menu for Christmas Day lunch and dinner.

“Our hospital kitchens will be offering inpatients, aged care residents and staff roast meats and a choice of roast vegetables or a variety of salads, including cous cous, potato and coleslaw, for Christmas lunch and dinner,’’ she said.

“For dinner, they will be able to choose from lighter options such as the salads and cold meats, as they wish, as we’ve found that, nowadays, people usually prefer a lighter meal in the evening after their big lunch.

“But each facility also will be putting its own mark on the day with additional offerings, such as homemade rum balls, white chocolate and apricot balls, caramel fudge, plum pudding, Christmas cake and rocky road, depending on the facility.

“Our kitchen staff have been busy getting things ready for the day in advance.’’

Those on restricted meals, such as a soft or pureed menu, or who have various other dietary or food allergy requirements, won’t be forgotten and will also have special Christmas meal selections to choose from.
